Today, I learned about:
Lately, I have learned quite som interesting facts about words. You may have heard about the French philosopher René Descartes, who died of pneumonia in Stockholm in February, 1650. He was living there thanks to the Swedish Queen Kristina, who was very found of having scientists and artists connected with her court. Descartes, Cartesius in Latin, is well known for his philosophical statement “Cogito, ergo sum” (“I think, therefore I am”; in French: “Je pense, donc je suis”). See also Reference #1 below.
Another person living during the 17th century was the Portuguese-Brazilian jesuit priest António Vieira. Vieira was very productive, one famous citation by him is similar tow hat Descartes said above, “Somos o que fazemos. O que não fazemos, não existe. Portanto, só existimos nos dias em que fazemos. Nos dias em que não fazemos, apenas duramos.”, (“We are what we do. What we don’t do, doesn’t exist. Therefore, we only exist on days when we do. On the days when we don’t do, we simply endure”). See also Reference #2 below.
A third interesting word is the Swedish word and metaphore linslus, (literally a lens bug in English). It is used about a person how adores to appear in photos, just like a bug that crawles and stays on the camera lens to appear in various photos.
Finally, this month here are some photos taken by my Swedish language student Gabriel Bertho, who visited San Francisco for AI tradeshow 4 months ago. The header photo shows the iconic Golden Gate bridge and here below are three well known places in San Francisco. Further information about San Francisco can be found in Reference #3 below.

That’s what I learned in school today!
